Summary:
Both my brain and my schedule have presented obstacles for progressing my creative projects this week, and there hasn’t been all that much paid editing work, either. But that’s okay. But also – how is it half way through February already???
Monday:
I spent some time in the morning prepping for the Creative Expansion Talk with Sean from A Write and A Pint, about editing memoir.
And then it was the talk itself!! And it went really well. We had six attendees, which wasn’t many but they were engaged and asked questions and contributed more and more as it went along. The interview section flowed well because I’d done good preparation and Sean kept the whole thing to time. I’m definitely better at this sort of thing than I give myself credit for, and I would probably do it again…
Later, I had a call with a prospective new editing client, which I thought went pretty well. She said she’d update me on her decision by the end of the day – but I hadn’t heard anything by Tuesday morning. I checked the Upwork job posting and it had a ‘hire’ listed, so I guess she went with someone else… Ah well! (She did message me later in the day to tell me.)
We went out for the evening to the theatre, so I read some more of How To Stop Time by Matt Haig and made notes for both family book club and the podcast.
Tuesday:
I knuckled down to paid editing this morning and did a chunk of the Regency romance, which I’m still really enjoying.
For the focus session part of Revision Club, I worked on feedback for several of the people in my other writing group on the openings of their books.
I also wrote my next blog post, about expanding my professional services offer, and wrote a review of the play we went to the night before – the most ridiculous (but awesome) adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing I’ve ever seen.
Later, I watched Dave’s selection for the next podcast episode and made my notes.
Wednesday:
I read a chunk more of How To Stop Time and made more notes.
Thursday:
I trekked into town to try the BFI Southbank as a work/writing venue for the day, aiming for when it supposedly opened at 11am. I was early, but the building was open and there were tens of laptop people already settled at the tables… I took the opportunity for a toilet visit, then grabbed some drinks from the cafe when it opened at 11am, and found a spot to settle in.
I started with a sample edit for a prospective new Upwork client with a travel memoir (which I was subsequently hired for!). Then I went back to the Regency romance and edited a chunk of that.
I also freeglanced an audio script for Dave and provided feedback on a novel opening for another member of my writing group. After that, I finished How To Stop Time and made more notes.
Sunday:
I wrote a couple of reviews – one for a book I finished and one for a new game I played.
