Weeknotes – S08E49 – The End is Nigh

Summary:

Lots of podcasting this week, which is always fun. Plus a decent amount of paid work to tide me over into the new year.

Monday:

With excellent timing, my next paid editing project dropped into my inbox last night, so I spent a very pleasant morning copy editing a lovely queer romance novella.

In the afternoon, I joined my regular Monday online focus session and completed the next scene for my current novel, A Wizard Calls My Name, which went pretty well.

Then I wrote reviews of two new games we played with friends in Croydon the day before.

Tuesday:

In more excellent timing, the other paid editing project I was planning to fit in before Christmas landed in my inbox overnight, so I started that. I’ve been hired to do a final proofread on a YA fantasy novel, a referral from a lovely fellow editor, who does the copy editing for this author.

I edited the first 40 pages and I’m really enjoying it so far, so what a lovely project to round out the year! I’m probably going a bit beyond the proofreading remit, but I’m trying to keep it light (and it doesn’t need much) and I figure a little bit of extra editing is never a bad thing. The author can always reject my suggested changes, after all.

I heard from the self-help book author, though he hasn’t yet approved the first payment and activated the second. I’ve been putting the project hours in and out of my pre-Christmas schedule about every other day – and both put them in and then took them out again this morning alone!

It would be great to get the second half of the initial copy edit out of the way before the end of the year, but it would put a bit of pressure on me for the next few weeks – and the payment hasn’t been funded yet, so it’s a risk. Plus, I have enough work booked in to hit my income target for December, and enough (with the self-help project starting in the new year) to hit my income target for January. So, why overload December if I don’t have to?

Later, I reviewed Moana 2, which we’d been to see the night before.

Wednesday:

I read some more of The Glass Books of the Dream Eaters for the podcast and added to my episode script.

I also wrote a review of the chunky Penny Vincenzi book I finished (at long last) the night before.

Thursday:

Our friend Richard came over to record the next episode of our podcast, which was a lot of fun.

Friday:

We took a short trip up to York for a Blackbeard’s Tea Party gig, which was excellent. I also read more of The Glass Books on the train and wrote some more of my podcast script.

Saturday:

One of my editor friends messaged me to ask if I would edit a new short story she’s writing, and I was delighted to agree! It’s going to make the start of next week quite busy, but I don’t mind.

In the evening, on our return from York, I read more of The Glass Books and added to my podcast script. I actually thought about giving up on it, since it was taking a very long time to read and getting very repetitive, but I decided against doing that for now.

Sunday:

I took myself out for a long walk and some extremely yummy lunch, read some more of The Glass Books and added more to my podcast script.
