Summary:
A bit lacking in motivation this week, but still some good stuff done. And it’s okay to rest and relax and not be doing all of the things all of the time!
Monday:
I travelled back from mid-Wales, where I had spent three glorious days on a reading retreat.
Tuesday:
I woke up, thinking I didn’t really want to go back to work today, or write my current novel – A Wizard Calls My Name. I had a lot of email and admin to catch up on after being away and thought about shifting everything else to later in the week and taking a day to ease myself back into being at home and getting things sorted out.
But then my brain started writing my novel in my head, so I wrote the start of the next scene and, since it was only just 9am, decided I would get started on my scheduled paid editing work for the day as well.
I started with the YA historical novel as that had the closest deadline, and edited the next couple of chapters. Then I moved on to the Regency romance and got a chunk of that done too. I also edited a bit more of the prison memoir – so it was a varied morning!
I had some random thoughts about a possible future novel on the way back from running errands, so added some notes to my folder of ‘one day’ ideas.
Later, I wrote reviews of six books I finished or DNF’d over the weekend – I love reading retreats!
Wednesday:
I helped Bear with his post about our glorious Reading Retreat weekend.
Thursday:
I wasn’t feeling particularly motivated today but I schlepped into town for the freelance coworking day.
I finished editing the YA historical novel and sent it back to the client. I really enjoyed working on it and hope I’ll be able to contribute to others in the series.
After lunch, I wrote my GYWO discussion post for the month, which was about writing being hard – a subject I was able to wax lyrical on!
I then did manage to complete the Wizard scene I started on Tuesday. I’m getting to the meat of the plot now, so everything is ramping up, but I also need to know a lot more detail than is currently in the outline.
I also wrote the next blog for Stanley the bear, all about the difference between transactional and transformational relationships.
Sunday:
I added a ton of notes to the script for my next Reviews Revisited podcast episode, for which I’m rereading A Gentleman in Moscow and comparing it to the recent TV adaptation and my review from the first time I read it about five years ago.
I also had a chat with Dave about the next scene for Wizard because I really didn’t know what was going to happen in it. He gave me some great ideas so I wrote some notes to help me remember it for tomorrow.
