Summary:
Bit of a switch-around on the paid editing schedule but it all worked out – on the project front, mostly gave myself permission not to be productive, but still got some stuff done.
Monday:
I split my morning between editing Carla’s novel and reviewing the first 10k words of a historical romance for a new client.
After lunch, I completed the mid-year review exercise in my Urban Writers Retreat diary and compiled my six-monthly review stats for the first half of 2024.
Tuesday:
In the morning, I finished my review of the opening of the historical romance novel and sent it back to the author, who was extremely pleased with the feedback and I hope will extend the project to include the rest of her novel. I also edited another chunk of Carla’s novel.
It was looking like the big RPG copy editing project I’d intended to work on in early July was going to be delayed, if not cancelled altogether, so it was great when my editor, Amie, contacted me about the outsourced editing project we’d planned for August and said it was ready now. It’s the next in a series of fantasy novels, the previous one of which I edited last summer. So, I moved that up in the schedule, filling up my time before the retreat nicely.
After lunch, I wrote some scripts for Stanley’s Instagram videos and did the next entry in my current solo RPG, The Last Tea Shop.
Thursday:
I went to the co-working day in Shoreditch and met some more nice new people, as well as catching up with the regulars.
I edited some more of Carla’s novel and started Amie’s outsourced project. It seems like the author has upped his game since the last instalment (which I edited a year ago) because this one didn’t need nearly as many changes, which is a good progression.
Later, I went through this month’s Writing Magazine and looked for new submission opportunities, read and gave feedback on a story that was posted on the TL;DR Slack.
Friday:
I wrote a few more scripts for Stanley the bear’s Instagram content.
Later, I finished listening to Bookshops & Bonedust and wrote my review.
I also finished my current computer game – Wytchwood – and wrote my review.
Saturday:
I went to Claire P’s excellent mid-year theme review workshop, did some very interesting reflective freewriting and decided to change my theme from ‘boundaries’ to ‘permission’.
Sunday:
I finished a book and wrote my review.
