Summary:
I put several very old creative projects back on my list this week, finished my biggest paid editing project to date, and felt pleasingly motivated about all my current writing/editing.
Monday:
In the morning, I chugged along a bit more with editing the RPG game text I’ve been working on for many weeks – though the end is in sight! I also started a project for a new client – doing a developmental edit of the first 13k words of her latest historical romance, which was fun.
After lunch, I had a focus session with Nikki and Sam. The first thing on my list was to call the Nielsen Agency and sort out the error I got when I tried to buy ISBNs for the self-published re-release of my debut novel The Defiant Spark. I got through in only a couple of minutes and the lovely lady on the other end sorted it out for me right away.
Then it was on to writing the blog post and video scripts for Stanley the bear’s online content for July, which is always a pleasure and didn’t take too long.
I also went through the rest of the material in the email marketing course I signed up for a while ago and made notes on things I could implement.
Then, I finally got back to continuing with the CIEP Plain English course I started a couple of months ago.
Tuesday:
I finished the developmental feedback on the historical romance and sent it back to the author for review and approval (she later said the feedback was really useful and she’ll look forward to working with me again, so that’s awesome).
I also completed editing the penultimate set of files of RPG text.
In the afternoon, we had a great discussion in Revision Club and then I worked through the edits on two short stories, as well as writing a review for the book I finished over breakfast.
I also went through the notes from the conference session I ran a couple of months ago and extracted some useful information about potential sources of work. I then went through a list of editing agencies and sent query emails to several of them.
Later, I went back to Catching Fire and made some more notes for my solo podcast episodes.
Wednesday:
I finished listening to the Catching Fire audiobook and also watched the film so I could complete the script for my next solo podcast episode.
I also reviewed the latest Sharon Shinn book – The Shuddering City – which I finished the day before.
Thursday:
I went to the freelance co-working day in Shoreditch again – I’m becoming a regular!
I finally finished editing all the RPG text, which felt like quite an achievement! It’s my biggest paid editing gig to date and took six weeks, which is a long time for me!
I also completed and edited my Catching Fire script for the podcast.
I was looking for things to do to keep me busy until other people were ready to go and get food, so I finally picked up my solo RPG again after seven months (Her Odyssey), and did the next entry.
Friday:
I wrote a review of the book I finished earlier in the day.
I also started reading the novel a friend completed recently and made some notes for feedback.
Saturday:
I spent most of the day reading my friend’s novel, which was very enjoyable.
Sunday:
I finished reading my friend’s novel and was very glad to be able to send some glowing feedback (since she’d said she only wanted positive comments at this stage).
I recorded and edited Stanley’s Instagram videos for July.
I also did the next entry for Her Odyssey and figured out how to get to the end relative quickly, since I wasn’t especially motivated by it and am keen to try a different game. This entry revitalised my interest, though, so I’m looking forward to doing the next few and bringing it to a satisfying conclusion.
Later, I had a look at my bookish survey results and started thinking about what I wanted to do with them – blog post, podcast episode, both?
