Weeknotes – S09E11 – Shiny New Project

Summary:

Al lot of my energy and focus this week was completely consumed by a new project idea (because I really need another project…) but I still managed to make progress in other important areas, like paid editing and my own writing.

Monday:

I thought I was going to be able to carry on with my current paid editing project this morning – the second half of the excellent biking memoir I started last week – but the link the client sent me didn’t work, so that will have to wait until tomorrow.

Instead, I created a spreadsheet for the excellent data my own editor, Leslie, is putting together to help with ordering the short stories in the collection I’m writing, based on Dixit card prompts.

I also started a Skillshare course about getting started on YouTube because a ridiculously stupid idea has taken root in my head and I thought the best way to get rid of it would be to do some research about how difficult and time-consuming it would be. I. Do. Not. Need. Another. Project!

I also wrote the next two Dixit stories, which I’m still really enjoying working on – and I’m definitely ahead of schedule so far.

So, a pretty productive day, after having had several days off over the weekend.

Later, I finished another book and wrote my review.

Tuesday:

I got the correct link from my memoir client and edited the next section of that in the morning.

During Revision Club, I edited the latest episode of the podcast.

Wednesday:

Today, I wrote a script for my first YouTube video… Because, of course, the ridiculous idea I had for a new, pressure-laden, time-intensive project I really don’t need in my life – Just. Won’t. Die…

I was going to have the day completely off, but I decided I would record and edit the next Reviews Revisited episode of the podcast – about Shrines of Gaiety by Kate Atkinson – to get it out of the way and allow me to have a clear weekend.

Later, I finished another (sadly disappointing) book and wrote my review.

Thursday:

I went into town to spend the day with the co-working crew – lots of great chat today, as well as some useful networking!

I did get some work done too, though – I finished editing the first volume of the biking memoir and sent it back to the author for review and approval – very much hoping volume two would be coming my way soon.

After lunch, I went through the tutor feedback from my first CIEP Proofreading course assignment – I got 78%, which is a very encouraging start. Then I continued on to the next unit, as I’m keen to complete the course as soon as possible.

I drafted another Dixit short story and also looked through my large collection of published and unpublished flash fiction, making up a list of possible stories that might fit any of the prompts. Then, I looked at Leslie’s feedback on the first one in the collection, making a start on revisions.

Friday:

I did some extra edits and answered queries from my biking memoir editing client.

I also added yet more notes and ideas to my YouTube preparation document. Why?? Why is my brain doing this to me?? This is going to end badly, I can tell!

I finished my current audiobook and wrote my review.

I also put together a ridiculously over-complicated recap presentation to remind Dave what happened in the first three Lady Astronaut books, so he’s ready for the release of The Martian Contingent!

Saturday:

In my continued over-excitement regarding my (likely doomed before it starts) YouTube idea, I filmed all three segments of my introductory video and then attempted to edit them together…

It actually went a lot better than I thought it would – I mean, it’s far from perfect but it’s easily good enough for me to be happy to publish it. And the editing process was incredibly simple, which was a nice surprise.

Riding the wave of motivation, I did a lot more prep work and made more notes for future videos.

Sunday:

Yet more notes/planning/scheduling/questioning about my YouTube content – it’s apparently all I can think about at the moment – here’s hoping the enthusiasm sticks around once I’m deep into the monthly content creation…
